Confused about Cake

Not the desert Entrée, the band. I have always had a hard time putting a genre to Cake as they are so very inconsistent. While this is what I enjoy the most about them I find I like to put things in categories so not having a good one for Cake perturbs me slightly. They get bundled in with Alternative most of the time which is just a way to describe bands that don't fit into a good solid genre like Blues, or Thrash Metal, you know the standards lol. I got to thinking about this as I was listening to their version of Short Skirt, Long Jacket on their B Sides cd. They use the faster style that is popular with some of their earlier tunes like The Distance, and while it is still a good song I much prefer the more subtle original release as I feel it gives it the right feel.

White Stripes - Conquest

Welcome to my new blog on Music. I haven't decided my goals for this project, it could be songs, albums, concerts who knows. I think I am just gonna see how it goes. Today I am going with a song that really struck me. Conquest by the White Stripes is a cover of a Corky Robbins song. This version features Nashville-based mariachi trumpeter Regulo Aldama. I find this song to be hilarious yet true in its own way.
